The Brigade Forums

The Forums were created so that anyone could chat about anything at any time without fear of reproach or being "snapped at" like many forums out there. Elly was once a member of a site & forum called "TR Headquarters" a very long time ago, and she noticed that key members were mocking her, then mimicking what she was saying to the great applause of the "cliques" that had formed within the board. WTF, basically.

This seemed wrong and sad - especially as she began to search around she found most places cold and unfriendly towards "new" members, calling them "n00bs" and "newbies". She also found most roleplaying forums far, far too strict so she encouraged an easier, 'freestyle' method on the Brig. You can be formal or relaxed, rant or need a shoulder to cry on. It's all good at the Brig.

Inappropriate Images/Links
Do not link to images/sites with inappropriate content, such as nudity, warez/piracy/illegal download and pornography sites. This does not include abandonware sites.

Inappropriate Topics
In addition to inappropriate links, certain topics are not appropriate for these forums. Topics about or discussing warez/piracy/illegal downloads and pornography are not permitted. This does not include topics about abandonware.

Cursing/Swearing
Swearing is permitted as long as we all act like adults and don't use the F word a bazillion times.

Advertising
We do not allow threads to be created for things such as professional advertising for business or sales (ie., spamming a website that sells shoes or such). The "Pointless, Yet Amusing" forums are used for board hops and advertising your own Yuku board...but why post here to advert your board? No one ever really looks at that shit.

Trolling
Intentional disruptive behavior including all of the above behaviors or looking for an argument is called trolling. This is not allowed here. Talking about any illegal activity, including software piracy, drugs, vandalism, assault, etc is not allowed.

Flaming
Insulting people, putting people down, calling names, etc is not acceptable on these forums. If you don't like a thread and/or feel that it is redundant, don't post in it. Also if you don't like the topic, that is no excuse to demean the person who started the thread, nor is it an excuse to make derogatory remarks. If you don't like it, don't post.

Posting About Moderator or Administrator Action or Inaction
Posting about administrative action that has been, should have been, or will be taken, is unhelpful and considered spam/mini-modding.

Politics/Religion and Current Events
Topics or posts that deal with political matters should be at all times respectful. We can disagree without being disagreeable. You may attack a person's argument mercilessly but once you attack the person making the argument this will be considered a personal attack and subject to Moderator intervention. You may post in "Butch's Customer Service Center" about anything you like, but keep it in there please, and do not let it taint the rest of the forums with "discussions" which are nothing but arguments.

Discrimination
No form of discrimination or hate speech will be tolerated at any time - this includes be is not limited to issues of gender, race, ethnicity, citizenship, sexual orientation, economic status, religion, and political affiliation. This includes "furries", just in case you were wondering.

18+ Forum: The Beaded Curtain Room.
If you want access to the BCR, you have to follow these rules. Do not just PM me without me knowing who the hell you are because you want some smut. The Brig is not about that type of thing! If you want access be sure you have:

1) posted here for at least a week or more, and been literate and mature. If you hop in, post once and then want to be let in it won't happen. We all need to feel comfortable with you as a mature adult, and nothing proves that like talking to all of us. If you hop in and request after you've posted once you will be denied.

2) Send Els proof. You also have to be 18 years of age or over. Contacting me with some proof helps - a scanned driver's ID (you can block out pertinent info like address, etc), or just a link to your eBay "About Me" page (you have to be 18 to have an eBay account).

Remember, we just want to keep minors out. It's not a horrible place, but we should always try to keep kids out because they don't always understand the nuances of adult behavior - such as "play acting" or "this is fiction/my characters are not me" versus real life. People assume that just because we love cartoon art that means it's all "G-Rated"...and that couldn't be farther from the truth sometimes!

Hentai is a Japanese slang word meaning 'perverted' or 'perversion'. In the world of manga and anime, hentai refers to the adult oriented titles that present extreme, graphic sexual imagery. A common Western stereotype concerning manga and anime is that these art forms are filled with graphic and disgusting sex. They are not intended to be; a lot of romance and feeling goes into each piece.

Some folks simply get jealous and can't stand it. But if you're not the type that goes crazy when seeing a fictional character alongside another equally fictional character...go for it.

Sorry about the large font. I get tons of people requesting access and it's irritating that they can't follow a few simple rules designed to protect everyone.

Be forgiving of other people's mistakes

Everyone was a network newbie once. So when someone makes a mistake -- whether it's a spelling error or a spelling flame, a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer -- be kind about it. If it's a minor error, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before reacting. Having good manners yourself doesn't give you license to correct everyone else.

If you do decide to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely, and preferably by private email rather than in public. Give people the benefit of the doubt; assume they just don't know any better. And never be arrogant or self-righteous about it. Just as it's a law of nature that spelling flames always contain spelling errors, notes pointing out Netiquette violations are often examples of poor Netiquette.

You are not the center of cyberspace

Presumably, this reminder will be superfluous to most readers. But I include it anyway, because when you're working hard on a project and deeply involved in it, it's easy to forget that other people have concerns other than yours. So don't expect instant responses to all your questions, and don't assume that all readers will agree with - or care about -- your passionate arguments.

If someone specifically requests that you don't inflame them on a passionate topic, it's just as much their right to request this as you believe it's your "right" to ignore that and "educate them for their own good".

One of the remedies noted for errant flamers is appealing to the culprit's sysadmin or to the newsgroup moderator to have network privileges revoked.

This will no doubt elicit cries of "censorship!" from some.

Sorry. Currently, no network service that I'm aware of is run as a democracy. While scorn is rightly heaped on such services as Prodigy - which monitors discussion group content ruthlessly for anything that could be construed as remotely offensive -- there is such a thing as Going Too Far in almost any group. We do have a right to monitor and censor our contents in any way.

There is some issue on Yuku with font sizing, be aware that if you resize text it can sometimes bite you in the ass because you won't be able to get your text back to "normal" size again.
