Of course not! Giygas is one of the first things close to Lovecraftian horrors in videogame history, and to this day it's still recognized as one of the most disturbing and original boss battles ever. Specially considering his creepy, non-sensical "dialogue" mid-fight

Earthbound IS a pretty amazing and lengthy RPG, but gotta warn you it takes a long while for the action to pick up. I'd suggest you try Mother 3 (Earthbound 2 basically) as well, it's a more fast-paced game and a truly beautiful piece on its own

But emulators are everywhere and both them and the roms are absolutely free, don't see what's the fuss on it. One thing is pirated games and other is ROMs o3o

And yeh, saw it. Actually there is said to be a lot of abortion-themed imaginery going on in the Giygas battle, from the entrance to its lair (just an opening on a mountain) to the lair itself, which looks very organic and uterus-y. Then again, this is just fan speculation and Itoi never said anything about it. Although again, he does like people to take their own impressions

It is also worth noting that Giygas also appeared in Mother (Earthbound's prequel), only known as Giege, and has a very touching and interesting backstory. How he went from what he was to the embodiment of all evil is never explained, though.

And if you plan on playing both Earthbound and Mother 3, I suggest starting on the former first. Otherwise there'll be a lot of details in the latter you won't get. Aside from SHOCKING SPOILERS
