O.o interesting choices.

I've never heard Colleen Clinkenbeard do a male's voice before, so I look forward to hearing her attempt. She's done Esther on Trinity Blood, and Riza Hawkeye in Fullmetal Alchemist, for reference.

To be honest, I don't mind the choice at all with Piccolo's VA for Zoro/Zolo (which, btw, Zolo *is* his official U.S. name, and won't be changed, due to copyright issues. They can't change that D*sney is full of douchebags, sorry; and they can't make Sanji smoke again because since One Piece has already been marketed towards kids, they'd get all kinds of angry parents throwing a fit if one of the main characters "suddenly started smoking," >< Funimation's doing their best, really). Anyway, as I was saying, of course they're going to make Zoro a rough, gruff guy. He's the total kickass badass of the show, and in American culture, what voice does one associate with that character type? And the guy did Jigen from Lupin, too, which is a much smoother, while still husky tone. So don't judge him by just one role right off the bat; voice actors are typically hired because they have a *variety* to them, though they typically get cast to do something specific because everyone has a comfortable range. (Like Vic Mignona gets cast as young hero types, Greg Ayers gets cast as wimpy little boys, and Scott McNeil does rough-and-tumble fun characters). This guy gets cast as tough, badasses, so Zoro is very fitting for him, I would think.

Seriously, guys. Please consider first that they are adapting a series to an entirely different culture, one that doesn't understand Japanese culture like most of us more learned fans, before jumping to huge conclusions about the voice actors or their work. It's usually not even the VA's fault if it sounds awful. The person to blame is usually the ADR director.

Sorry, btw, if this sounds kind of vindictive or overprotective. >>; it's just kinda my industry, you know?

Back on topic, they got a good mix of lesser known VAs and more seasoned VAs for One Piece. I'm looking forward to hearing the changes and something that doesn't make me want to claw my eardrums out with a metal, spikey q-tip of doom. >>; I mean, they got Trunks (<3) as Sanji now, and Lupin/Krillin as Usopp.
