I just wanted to lay out a background for those that haven't really played here before. Nothing is a rule of "if you break this we'll eat your
liver for lunch", but if you follow a lot of these you'll probably get a lot more replies and plays.
Roleplay add-ons or reminders: #1: some additional tips! April 06, 2007
-------------------------------------------------------------
How many characters can I have?
As many as you want, but try to keep it simple for a single roleplay...remember, if you insert 10 characters and try to RP them all in one place some folks will just get confused and end up ignoring you.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Getting shmoopey with your
character(s):
All rooms/areas come with a Beaded Curtain (Room/Area) for censoring "naughty stuff" in the back. If you feel the need just drag your guy, gal or critter in there. It was created so we could have a bit of a place for folks that wanted to revel in luff, but couldn't gain access to the actual BCR (forum page) yet. Shmoopeyness is certainly allowed, as is a lot of risque talk and such. You're just not allowed to speak plainly or descriptively about things that happen when you're in the BCR within the actual Brig. A funny reference, such as noises or clothing being thrown about will do.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Freeform Roleplay? What's that?
It's how we usually do it at the Brig. Example:
Zoro: *walks in* What the h-
:: hell is this? ::
The main character that is speaking doesn't need to post their name, such as seen above - "name: speak". If I were roleplaying Zoro but was there myself, I'd simply add my speech below his because I'm the main character.
Zoro: *walks in* What the h-
:: hell is this? ::
Duh, bushido. It's like, a FAQy thing...uh. Right. *waves*
The colons and italisized speech is my way of adding a ":: word bubble ::" - that's what the character is thinking. You can RP in story form if you want - just be sure to set up the "scene" and "tone" beforehand, in the first post. Keep in that form if you join rp's - if someone posted originally in story form, don't freeform when you reply.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"OOC" Posting
OOC means "out of character" posting. If someone posted a hilarious rp, or you feel the need to say something to the person to clear things up or something, simply put:
OOC: "your message"
____________________
*continued roleplay text*
Try to break the OOC up from the roleplay so we can know what's what (like that line _______ up there). It's easier for everyone that way.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Controlling another person's character
Unlike most RPG's, we allow this - as long as you know the other person's character well enough. You can't do anything super outrageous with them, but if you want to further your fun along - for example, if you want Elly to sniff something you baked and have her say it smells good -- that's fine! As you RP you'll get a grip on the other characters we all use. Use common sense and judgement: if you love Zoro and constantly hit on him but he doesn't respond favorably (and Elly starts to growl at you) you'd understand that it's not a good thing to do, right? Right.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If confused, read the bio of the character!
Everyone will eventually make one, even if it's just "you" that you're playing as. They'll be listed here below the guide.
